Dental Check-up and Clean
As the saying goes, prevention is better than a cure. Not many know this but most dental problems are avoidable. As a result research has shown that poor dental attendance is linked to higher rates of decay and gum disease.
With regular dental visits – what we like to call ‘active maintenance’ appointments, we can identify these dental problems earlier and treat them with uncomplicated and more affordable treatments. The earlier the intervention the more predictable the outcome.
No problem is ever fixed by delaying it. At Emu Plains Family Dental we believe early, minimal and conservative intervention.
Regular six monthly dental cleans performed routinely can help prevent or minimise irreversible damage to the teeth and gums. Just like the body, the mouth is in a constant state of deterioration throughout our lives. With active maintenance we can try and delay and in certain cases reverse this process with good habits.
We know how time flies, and six months becomes two years with the blink of an eye. That’s why by joining Emu Plains Family Dental, we automatically place our patients on a recall list and we’ll reach out to you every six months for your professional dental examination and clean appointment so you don’t forget!
Our Emu Plains dentists spend a lot of time with our patients educating them on proper brushing and flossing procedures. This is especially important for the little ones as we want to make sure they have good habits for life. We also take the time to explain the root cause of the problem so we can try and encourage patients to make the changes they need to avoid them from reoccurring in the future.

Steps To Your New Smile?
Fissure sealants
Children can be more prone to developing cavities as they often have deep grooves and pits in their back teeth or ‘molars’. These grooves collect food and plaque and can make it very difficult to clean. Fissure sealants are placed as a hard protective coating to fill and protect these grooves and pits. This will significantly reduce the risk for decay and need for fillings.
Mouthguards
Sports mouthguards are important in reducing trauma and concussion. At Emu Plains Family Dental we can make custom-made mouthguards which are designed to protect teeth and soft tissue in the event of sporting injuries. Compared to poor quality boil and bite mouthguards, our custom-made mouthguards are more comfortable, more retentive and provide better protection.
Occlusal splints
Occlusal splints otherwise known as night guards are a custom hard plastic appliance made to fit the upper or lower teeth. It is designed to protect teeth from permanent damage such as wear and cracks caused by grinding and clenching also known as bruxism.
